The Annual LULAC Emerge Latino Leadership Conference Will Take Place in Washington, D.C. from Tuesday, February 14 through Thursday, February 16, 2017

LULAC is proud to present the 2017 Emerge Latino Conference, which will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C. The Emerge Latino Conference is a multi-day Latino leadership conference that provides college students with policy briefings on issues that impact the Latino community. Some of the highlights include:
- Training on civic engagement practices, advocacy, program coordination, and job readiness;
- Policy workshops on critical legislative issues affecting Hispanic Americans such as immigration, health, and the environment;
- The LULAC Legislative Awards Gala and Awards Ceremony, which recognizes key leaders who have served the Hispanic community across the country;
- Meetings with Members of Congress to advocate for key issues;
- A career fair to explore job and internship opportunities in corporate, nonprofit, government, and non-traditional sectors.
Applications for a travel scholarship to attend the conference are due by December 2, 2016. The scholarship will pay for travel and lodging expenses. The deadline to register for the conference is January 20, 2017.

CAMP-Chicago Academic Medicine Program at Pritzker

-The Chicago Academic Medicine Program (CAMP) is a 6-week summer program for undergraduate students who have completed the freshman or sophomore year in college, or who are graduating from high school in spring of 2013 and have been accepted into college. The Pritzker School of Medicine Office of Multicultural Affairs developed CAMP to help multicultural and disadvantaged students build the knowledge base and academic skills necessary for success in a premedical program.

-The Pritzker School of Medicine Experience in Research (PSOMER) program is an 8-week research, education, and mentoring experience with University of Chicago faculty. PSOMER is open only to college students who are rising juniors and seniors. The program seeks high achieving students from disadvantaged backgrounds, African American/Black, Hispanic, American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or other groups that have shown to be underrepresented in the health related sciences and medicine. The projects will range from basic science laboratory to clinical research projects.

-The Sackler Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences and the Office of Minority Affairs invites applications from students for participation in a summer research internship program in the medical sciences at New York University Medical Center. The purpose of the program is to give students who may be interested in pursuing careers in the biomedical sciences (PhD, MD or MD-PhD) the opportunity to conduct research and to be exposed to the excitement of an academic medical environment at a major research center.
DSHREP-Diversity Summer Health-related Research Education Program at MCW

- DSHREP is a competitive program designed to provide research opportunities for undergraduate students from backgrounds that are historically underrepresented in biomedical science. Qualified diverse students who are accepted into the program are matched with an established faculty investigator to participate in a research project addressing the causes, prevention, and treatment of cardiovascular, pulmonary, and hematological diseases.

-The Pittsburgh MSTP offers a 10-week summer research and professional development program for underrepresented students in the field of biomedical sciences who are interested in careers as physician scientists. The program is designed for students in their freshman, sophomore or junior years of college.
SROP-Summer Research Opportunities Program for Undergraduates at UIC

-The goal of SROP is to introduce domestic underrepresented sophomores and juniors to academic research experiences. Student participants work one-on-one with a faculty mentor giving them an opportunity to experience research and the graduate student experience.
STARS – Summer Training in Academic Research and Scholarship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital
-The BWH STARS Program recruits underrepresented minority (URM) college and first-year medical students from around the US into an eight-week mentored summer program. The students participate in intensive hands-on training in research methods and practice directly in the labs of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School’s leading researchers.
JHU BioREU Research Experiences for Undergraduates at Johns Hopkins

-The 10-week summer program is designed to provide an intensive, mentored research experience for undergraduates, especially those attending institutions with limited research opportunities. Many of the projects pursued by REU participants will employ imaging and structural techniques to study important biological systems and phenomena.
NIDDK – National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases
-The overall goal of this program is to build and sustain a biomedical, behavioral, clinical and social science research pipeline focused on NIDDK mission areas. OMHRC/SIP is particularly interested in increasing students from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical research, including individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds and individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. This program provides an opportunity to participate in a research project within a NIH laboratory.
